With minor population damage, crow hunt confounds birders
      A pair of island hunters, Terry Sutherberg and Lewis Kelsey, were the winners of this year’s Al Silva Golden Crow Award. The pair shot 51 crows during the two-day derby on Jan. 20 and 21, a new record in the Nantucket Hunting Association’s unique contest. In 2009, the winning number and new record was 39.

Congregational Church welcomes new minister
      Nantucket is a long way from his boyhood home of the Missouri Ozarks, but Rev. Gary Klingsporn, the new minister at the First Congregational Church in Nantucket is up for the adventure. Klingsporn and his wife Debra moved into the parsonage on Centre Street last week and are already settling into island life.

Habitat for Humanity
     One of the best ways to learn a new home improvement skill is to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity Nantucket is now constructing a house at 46 Okorwaw Street. It is the fourth Habitat house on island, and so far, the house raising is drawing more volunteers than any one of the other three island projects.
