Delgado hearing continued two weeks A probation violation hearing for Gerson Lopez Delgado, scheduled for Monday’s district court, was continued to Tuesday, Feb. 16. Delgado, 22, was arrested on Christmas morning after allegedly assaulting his 21-yearold girlfriend and their threemonth old infant son. Following a dangerousness hearing on January 4, Delgado was held without bail in the Barnstable House of Correction on charges of assault on an infant, domestic assault and battery and assault with a dangerous weapon. He was also held on a probation detention stemming from his alleged violation of his probation ordered after a 2008 assault on the same woman. The probation violation hearing was to be held Monday but was postponed two weeks. A March 22 trial is still pending. According to his girlfriend’s testimony at the dangerousness hearing, Delgado threatened her with a kitchen knife in the early morning hours of Christmas Eve after he came home following an evening of drinking. He went out the next night and again returned home at about 3 a.m. She testified that he shook their baby by the top of its head, causing it to vomit, then assaulted and choked her and threatened to kill her if she reported him to police. She was finally able to escape and call for help from her landlady’s house next door. The infant was examined at Nantucket Cottage Hospital, then flown to the mainland with its mother for safe shelter; however, the baby then experienced a seizure and was admitted to Boston’s Children’s Hospital. The baby was released to its mother on Dec. 28. I |
