AROUND THE ISLAND

'Tis the season - to give back! The Rotary Club of Nantucket and Think Local First! (an initiative of Sustainable Nantucket and the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce) have launched a campaign for islanders and non-profit organizations to say thanks to all the merchants, businesses and restaurant owners who help the yearround community with their generous donations and support.

Every year the community looks to our on-Island businesses, merchants and restaurant owners to support our fundraising events. Let's give back to these loyal local businesses on December 19 by shopping and dining that day exclusively on-Island.

10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Kick-off event at the Marine Design Center at Bayberry Court with the Accidentals and Naturals, Santa sightings, carolers, Rotarians and Interact students as our "elves." Santa will be at the Spirit of Toys and at Geronimo's for our fourlegged friends.

11:30 - 2:00 Downtown Santa sightings; Accidentals and Naturals; carolers and surprise musical entertainment. *Rules for December 19 Think Local First! and Rotary Club of Nantucket Donation Contest

1. On December 19, 2009 consumers and non-profit supporters shopping at Think Local First! member stores are to retain their sales slips. 2. Shoppers must present all qualifying receipts to designated elf counters and/or to the designated contest tally locations found at the Marine Design Center at Bayberry Court, the Greenhound Building on Washington Street or other downtown locations. 3. Receipts from Think Local First! member merchants are the only qualifying receipts accepted for the contest. Member stores and their locations are available at the following locations: www.thinklocalfirstnantucket.org, Elf Counters, Marine Design Center at Bayberry Court, and the Greenhound Building on Washington Street and other downtown locations. 4. Each qualifying receipt will be marked and recorded as to the amount and the non-profit for which credit is to be applied. 5. All qualifying receipts will be tallied and the non-profit attaining the highest amount of dollar sales at Think Local First! member merchants for the day will be the winner of the $500 donation. 6. Award will be announced within 48 hours of the event. I
