     is not everyday that one gets to see three Olympic figure skaters perform at the Nantucket Ice Rink. Islanders filled the stands at the ice rink last Friday to see Dorothy Hamill, 1976 Olympic gold medalist (left), Peter Carruthers, 1984 Olympic silver medalist and Randy Gardner, 1979 Olympic gold medalist, skate along with the first class of the Dorthy Hamill gure skating fantasy camp (right). Hamill and her fellow Olympians shared the ice and their knowledge of skating with campers Liz Avery, Katie Brower, Jo-Anne Capobianco, Kristin Defrancisci, Midge Farkas, Mary Ferguson, Debbie Gordon, Cathy Janssen, Jorge DeLima, Billie O'Neel, Ruth Rahal and Wendi Williams. Although the show was in the cavernous ice rink, it had an intimate, "family living room" feel to it.

Boys varsity soccer wins one and loses one
      The varsity boys soccer team split two games last week dropping its first game of the young season. Last Wednesday the team traveled to Cardinal Spellman and came away with a 3- 0 loss. The teams battled to a 0-0 draw until 15 minutes to go.

Whaler football falls to Tri-County, 28 to 0
      After winning the first game of the season last week, the Nantucket Whaler football team faced off against the visiting Tri-County team last Friday night. Tri-County had triumphed over its last opponent, West Bridgewater, 26-7 and plays teams from one of the toughest areas in the state, Blackstone Valley. Nantucket was blanked 28-0.

Field Hockey cruises to fifth shutout
      After the varsity girls field hockey team traveled to Mashpee last Thursday and brought home a 3-0 victory, the team then set its sights on a visiting Norwood team on Saturday. Halie Ciarmataro hit the board twice on assists from Ashley Clinger and Morgan Tornovish.

Mixed results for varsity girls soccer
      After the Lady Whalers soccer team gutted out a well-earned 2-2 tie versus a visiting Fairhaven last Tuesday, the squad hosted Norwood on a blustery Saturday. The team took the field after Nantucket's varsity boys soccer team had trounced Norwood 5-1. Unfortunately for the girls, Nantucket found itself on the losing end by the same 5-1 score.
