EDITORIAL
      Public safety officials acted wisely this past weekend in closing the beaches on the south shore. The undertow was strong and the waves were high. Anyone who had been swimming in the surf on Wednesday and Thursday could feel the power of the surf and Hurricane Bill was days away from us.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
      To The Editor: As the swell from Hurricane Bill roared across the break we call the Bluff, the ATV summer cop told us that if we surfed, we could be fined or arrested. I thought [that if] we surfed this place in the winter with bigger swell, we knew what we are doing, and have never been threatened with arrest for surfing on Nantucket for over 10 years until now.

      Augustus Kever Barber was born at Nantucket Cottage Hospital on August 19, 2009 weighing 7 pounds and 12 ounces. He is the son of Beau Barber and Callahan Kever of Nantucket. His grandparents are Mark and Holly Barber and Julie Kever and the late Johnny Kever of Nantucket. His great-grandparents are Gen. David O. and Janie Williams of Austin, Tx.
