Belanger leaves island post for New Bedford command
      Massachusetts Environmental Police Director Aaron Gross said last week that he and the environmental police are here for the people of the state and Nantucket. Gross' comment was in response to recent rumors that Nantucket might be losing its environmental police offi cer, a statement he confirmed is not true.

Selectmen unanimously endorse shellfish regulation changes
      Of the changes to Nantucket's shellfish regulations that the Board of Selectmen unanimously ratified on May 20, the apprentice permit program is likely to draw the most attention. Nantucketers who plan to go commercial scalloping for the first time will be required to complete an apprentice program and be mentored by experienced commercial scallopers.

Four designers vie for Wilkes Square project
      Tomorrow, members of the Downtown Revitalization Committee will be interviewing four design firms for the redevelopment of Wilkes Square. Wilkes Square is the 5.6 acre triangle that includes National Grid, the Grand Union grocery store, Harbor Fuel's fuel tank farm, retail shops and the Greenhound bus terminal.

Landmarks of Nantucket! The island through 30 pairs of eyes
      This spring 30 students were each given a camera and asked to photograph an island landmark they would miss the most, should that landmark vanish. The results of this photographic safari will be shown in "Landmarks of Nantucket!" a student-curated photography exhibition that opens this Sunday, May 31 at 2 p.m. in the Candle Factory of the Whaling Museum.
