Varsity baseball clinches playoff berth
      The varsity baseball team played and won five games last week for a 9-2 record and secured a berth in post-season. After Nantucket wiped out Provincetown last Wednesday 16-7, with Eric Lowell on the mound throwing for eight strike outs, and then driving in six runs from the plate, the team hosted Sturgis on Thursday with Mike Molta getting the call.

Softball improves record
      In a slug fest last Thursday against Maritime League opponent Sturgis, 19 Nantucket players crossed the plate to Sturgis' 16 to improve the Whaler's record to 8-2. On Saturday, Nantucket welcomed non-league competitor Mashpee to the island. It only took four innings for the Whalers to vault ahead, with eight runs scored.

Laxmen rack up two more
      Last Wednesday, the Nantucket varsity boys lacrosse team traveled to New Bedford for an expected tough game. Having already qualified for the post-season, each win for the Whalers improves the team's placement in the playoffs and the possibility of home field advantage for the first few rounds. Nantucket was not disappointed.
