      The end of January is a time for waiting. The holidays are long gone and, amid the chill, a collective silence has settled over Nantucket. This year the silence is perhaps deeper than it has been for many winters because of the strains of the economic situation and the impact that has had on our friends and neighbors.

Blue with the Cold?
BIRDS OF NANTUCKET
      Everyone thinks this week's bird is a sign that spring is approaching - like the robin perhaps. But on our recent Christmas Bird Count we tallied 2,160 American Robins, making them the fifth most "common" bird on Nantucket, December 27, 2008. They were just behind the European Starling and just ahead of the Yellowrumped Warbler.
