When I looked out the window this morning, it was with the hope that I would see something different. I am not sure what I expected. Maybe it would be a blanket of new snow. Better still, perhaps I would see palm trees that would indicate that the cold weather of the last few weeks was really just a bad dream. More ... With no advance notice, my brother appeared on island for a few hours this past Friday. He had been traveling the east coast with a friend and thought he'd pop over to say hello. At first I felt a bit of a panic thinking there wouldn't be much to do downtown in January, but I was pleasantly surprised. More ... I nsulation - that's what you need if you are on Nantucket at this time of year. A few weeks ago I was out with some beginning birders looking at the ducks in Nantucket Harbor. One lady commented, "I guess these ducks will all be heading south soon." "No," I said, " These ducks (Buffleheads) just arrived. This is 'south' to them. More ... Whether or not you're a believer in New Year's Resolutions, traditionally this is the time of the year when we look back, take stock and vow to change those things in our lives that we feel need improving.
