For U.S. Senate: Nantucket's Own John F. Kerry

In the September 16 Democratic primary election for United States Senate, The Nantucket Independent endorses Senator John F. Kerry. Facing a primary election challenge for the first time since he was elected to that office in 1984, Kerry deserves to be returned to the Senate, and Massachusetts and the nation need him there. While the outcome of the presidential election may still be too close to call, there can be little doubt that the Democrats will retain, and even enhance, their majorities in both houses of Congress this November - perhaps beyond a filibuster-proof 60 seats in the Senate. Senator John Kerry, long a leader on the environment and climate change, needs to be a part of that legislative revolution.
