LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
To the Editor,

Nantucket's long history of supporting its craftspeople, farmers and growers is alive and well. Through the vision and efforts of Sustainable Nantucket, the Nantucket Farmers' and Artisans' Market not only gives the island's traditional small businesses an outlet, it serves as a reminder to islanders and visitors alike of the rich variety of products grown or crafted here.

As a handweaver, I know the challenges of running a small business on Nantucket. Thanks to the Farmers' and Artisans' Market, hundreds of people have been introduced to my business, as well as to the businesses of the other 25 or so vendors who set up shop every Saturday morning.

As you can imagine, the Farmers' and Artisans' Market could not exist without help. Thanks to the generosity of the Dreamland Foundation, we have been able to use the movie theater's back lot for our market since June 28. This Saturday, August 9, the market will move back to the parking lot of the Nantucket New School on Nobadeer Farm Road, an original and gracious supporter of the market. The market will continue this fall through October 11.

If you haven't been to the market yet, please come check it out. Last week I came home from the market with fresh leeks, baby bok choy, garlic, fresh mushrooms and amazing flowers for my table.

All of us vendors give our sincere appreciation to Sustainable Nantucket, the Dreamland Foundation and the Nantucket New School for helping to keep Nantucket vital.

To the Editor,

The Nantucket Lighthouse School is grateful to the Nantucket Golf Club Foundation for its generous contribution to the Nantucket Lighthouse School's scholarship fund. This fund is dedicated to making a Lighthouse School education accessible to island families. On behalf of the Lighthouse School community and the young students that will benefit from this support, we thank the Nantucket Golf Club Foundation for making a difference in the lives of Nantucket children and helping to maintain educational choices on our small island.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Evans

To the Editor,

On behalf of the Nantucket Atheneum Board of Trustees, library staff and the 2008 Circus Flora Committee, I would like to thank the many, many people who helped make this year's Circus Flora fundraiser amazingly successful.

Now in its fifth year on Nantucket, Circus Flora, the magical one ring circus from St. Louis, just keeps getting better. As the Atheneum's primary fundraising event, the success of the circus weekend, which included a gala party, four performances, a children's breakfast and a barbeque, will help us to continue to provide the island with top notch services and programs. But we could not have done it without the generosity and enthusiastic spirit of our team of sponsors, committee members and volunteers.

Special thanks go to: our committee chairwoman Diane Zuckerman; to our lead underwriters Northern Trust and Sentient Flight Group; to the gala underwriter, the Point Breeze Club; and to the Children's Breakfast underwriter, Nantucket Island Resorts; to the residents of Tom Nevers; to the cast and company of Circus Flora, to our hardworking volunteers and, most especially, to the more 5,000 people who came to see our circus by the sea this past weekend and were enchanted by its magic.
Sincerely,
Tish Emerson
Chairman
