Bocce ball and BBQ

A bocce ball competition, barbecue and bluegrass music all sound like perfect summertime pursuits by themselves, but when combined, it makes for a night to remember and a great benefit for the Nantucket Land Council.

This Saturday from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Big House at 12 Whero Whero Lane off South Shore Road, Cape & Islands Tidal Rock clothing company is organizing the First Annual BBQ, Bocce & Bluegrass Benefit.

If you've got the energy, enter the bocce tournament for the Tidal Rock Bocce trophy made by Barber Brothers Furniture. Other prizes will be contributed by Tidal Rock and other benefit sponsors, including Sea Nantucket Kayak Rentals, Beautiful Days, Hy-Line Cruises, Bill Fisher Tackle, Murray's Toggery and Althea K Sport Fishing.

Afterwards, groove to acoustic bluegrass by the Chuck Colley Trio while you inhale BBQ from Cowboy's Meat Market & Deli, quaff Cisco Brewers beer and Nantucket Vineyards wine, and gorge yourself on dessert from the Juice Bar.

Tickets are $35 for adults and $20 for children through age 12. Get tickets at www.tidalrock.com/nantucket/ nan_events.html. To play in the bocce tournament, arrive by 4:30 p.m.

Football and

foreclosures

In the inspirational setting of Gillette Stadium, Nantucketers who may be facing foreclosures on their real estate who want to toss the red flag and challenge their lender's negative calls on their loans now have a chance for review of their situation.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, the Patriots Charitable Foundation, NeighborWorks America and the HOPE NOW Alliance are huddling together to put on a foreclosure workshop on Aug. 12 in the Fidelity Investments Clubhouse, East at Gillette Stadium for people in danger of mortgage default or foreclosure. The workshop, which runs from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., aims to put borrowers and lenders face to face for a little coaching on how both sides can work to keep the loan active and out of legal difficulties.

Among the almost 20 nationwide loan servicers and 30 housing and foreclosure counselors at this workshop are Bank of America, Carrington, Chase, Citi, Countrywide, EMC, GMAC Rescap, Home Loan Services, HSBC, Indy Mac, Litton, National City, Option One/American Home Mortgage, Ocwen, Saxon, Suntrust, Washington Mutual, and Wells Fargo, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
