Frederick Chopin is, in Sargon's opinion, the greatest composer of music for the piano who had a seven year relationship with the writer George Sand, the quintessential free spirit of her time. Johannes Brahms had a fascinating 50 year relationship with Clara Schumann, the first great female pianist of the 19th Century. And, Louis Moreau Gottschalk, who was the first American composer to incorporate the fresh, new rhythms and harmonies of the New World, became involved with Ada Clare, one of the most talked about American actresses of the 19th Century. Sargon's lectures will be conversations from the keyboard, as he both talks about and plays musical examples. Free admission with a ticket. Mystic Seaport chanteyman and artist Don Sineti will perform during a family concert in the Whaling Museum, 13 Broad Street. Free for NHA members, $15 general public. Sineti, a longtime supporter of the NHA, is a folk musician and chanteyman from Mystic Seaport. In his Saturday concert, he will use traditional instruments to share sailors' songs and chanteys that chronicle life on the high seas. Sineti will also be offering drawing classes during the Family Whale Festival on July 17 & 18 from 12 to 4 p.m. in the Whaling Museum. For additional information, please call 508-228-1894, ext 0.

The series features five knowledgable speakers who will discuss the challenges faced by the United States today. Entitled, "Outside the Box," Dupont's columns discuss current public policy and political matters. He has served as a state legislator, U.S. Congressman, Governor, in Delaware and in l988 was a Republican candidate for President of the United States. First Congregational Church Tower Tour You really haven't seen Nantucket until you have seen it from the Tower of the Old North Church, conveniently located at 62 Centre Street. The enclosed 94 step climb has several stopping points for resting and a museum level with historic photographic displays. A visit to the Tower should only take a half hour, but you are welcome to stay as long as you are enjoying the view. Taking pictures welcomed. Egan Maritime Institute Exhibition: "Splash! Boatbuilding on Nantucket" An in-depth look at boatbuilding on the island from whaling through today. Nantucket Historical Association Sconset 02564: A Celebration of the Patchwork Village This exhibition features the history, architecture, personalities, and character of 'Sconset, and its evolution from a fishing village to a world-renowned summer resort. The exhibition includes a model of the Nantucket Railroad, oral history interviews with 'Sconseters, a movie chronicling the 2007 move of Sankaty Light, a digital 'Sconset Family Album, a model of the 'Sconset pump by Nelson "Snooky" Eldridge, and more. Nantucket Presidential Papers: From Washington to Franklin D. Roosevelt American presidents have been concerned in the affairs of Nantucket Island from the days of the nation's founding. The collections of the Nantucket Historical Association hold documents signed by almost every president beginning with George Washington. In recognition of election year, the NHA will present an exhibition highlighting some of the more remarkable items in the collection.
