With Tim Russert's passing, Nantucket has lost a neighbor and a friend.

World-renowned host of NBC's "Meet the Press," Russert was a summer resident here and active in our community. He offered his celebrity to many local causes, including the Nantucket Boys and Girls Club and emceeing Nantucket Cottage Hospital's annual Boston Pops fundraiser at Jetties Beach. He and his wife, Maureen Orth, hosted the American Ireland Fund's annual Nantucket celebration. Russert was to have keynoted the Nantucket Atheneum's Geschke Lecture series next month.

Just a regular guy, who loved the island and its people, and gave of his time and energy.

He will be greatly missed. Our condolences to Tim's family.
