Erosion closes Cisco, Madaket beaches

Town Beach Manager Jeff Carlson announced Monday the closure of two beaches- Cisco, in front of the Land Bank parking lot, and Madaket, at the end of Madaket Road, due to severe erosion at both locations.
The eight- to 12-foot drop from the dunes to the beach prevents safe access to the beaches.
Carlson said there would be no lifeguards and portable toilets at these beaches, until the beach gains enough sand for safe passage.
Storms at the end of May further eroded already compromised access to the public beaches at Madaket and Cisco.
Carlson will reevaluate the beach closures should they build up with sand this summer.
Beach goers can still get to Cisco Beach at end of Hummock Pond Road.
