| Beachgoers from Concord, NH enjoy a hot and muggy day at Madaket beach on Monday. The shrinking sands and rising cliff have cause the Marine Department to not staff some island beaches with lifeguards this year. |

Town Beach Manager Jeff Carlson announced Monday afternoon the closure of Cisco Beach in front of the Land Parking lot and Madaket Beach at the end of Madaket Road due to severe erosion at both locations.
The eight- to 12-foot drop off from the dunes to the beach prevents safe access to these beaches and therefore, Carlson closed these beaches and said there would be no lifeguards and portable toilets at these beaches until the beach accreted enough for safe passage onto the sand.
Beach goers can still safely get down Cisco Beach at end of Hummock Pond Road.
