NSSA SOCCER April 26 & 27
It was a light week for the Nantucket Student Soccer Association spring travel teams this past week, with no games played the first weekend of school vacation week and only three this past weekend. The U13 girls got an easy tick in the win column due to a forfeit from Mariner. The U15 boys dropped a close one to Sandwich, a perennially tough team, 1-0 on their field, for their first loss of the season. The U13 boys maintained their undefeated position at the top of their division tied with Freetown- Lakeville, trouncing Oceana 7-1, with two of the goals coming courtesy of "own goals" by Oceana. In three games the squad has scored 28 goals to their opponents'three.

The U10 boys team had their hands full with Dighton-Rehoboth off Cape on Sunday, after taking two straight games from their opponents. The first half, Nantucket was off its game allowing the opponent to dominate on both sides of the ball. After firing off two quick goals against keeper Gus Day, Nantucket started to hold its ground defensively, anchored by Lewis Mundy-Shaw and Jake Legge. Nantucket was awarded a penalty shot for an infraction in the box. Jack Sylvia took the shot and scored Nantucket's only goal on a low skimmer into the left corner. D-R answered quickly to end the half up 3-1. At the start of the second half Legge took over between the posts and stayed strong fending off several shots. Nantucket played more like itself with precision passes up the wings to Ethan Wing, Raheem Spence and Xander Raith. Unfortunately, all of Nantucket's shots on goal went awry, usually after glancing contact with the posts and crossbar. D-R scored two more times to end the game with the win 5-1. "This is a young team that is still developing" said Coach Claire Richardson. "This loss will help us to become better players in the end. All the boys played well and worked together as a group and that is all we

can ask out of them." I
