REASSESSINGOUROPTIONS

To the editor:

Erosion is a problem that has actively threatened Sconset homes, roads and utilities for 20 years, which is why we have been working so hard for so long to develop an environmentally sensitive approach to address Sconset's problem. And since our proposal was before the island-wide electorate before the Concomm or any other agency was able to complete its review , we felt we needed to start a broad community conversation about our problem and our proposed solution. We didn't think we could do that effectively without professional support, but we did get the enthusiastic help of many Nantucketers as well.We extend our sincere appreciation to all of those who participated actively in our effort to communicate both our problem and the specifics of our proposed plan.

While erosion is severe in 'Sconset and other areas now, it clearly is an island-wide threat in the future. The election result made it clear that we will need to modify our plan to take into account the concerns of fishermen and others. We are reassessing our options accordingly, and look forward to continuing the conversation on ways to address our erosion issue in a manner that is broadly acceptable to Nantucketers.

Sincerely,

- Kermit Roosevelt WHATAWAYTOENDDAFFY!

To the editor:

The annual Spring Down the House fundraising event benefiting Small Friends Building Dreams topped off Daffodil weekend with great success! Once again the Nantucket community, both year round and summer residents showed great support. The 'Sconset Casino was alive with music, drink and wonderful food provided by Simply with Style Catering.

Thank you to all who attended, all who donated to our giving tree, the unflappable Events Committee, our selfless underwriters and the local businesses who gave their skills and labor. Without their support this event would not have been possible. These wonderful people and businesses support a program that is committed to supporting Nantucket.

Small Friends on Nantucket provides the Nantucket community with a service as vital as job viability, affordable housing and sustainable living. We are the island's only NAEYC accredited, year-round, full day early education and care center that cares for children ages 3 months to pre-K. We are building Nantucket's first LEED certified environmentally responsible commercial building for our center. Currently, we are in the midst of meeting a $500,000 matching grant that will finish paying for our building, bringing us to the $3.5 million dollar mark!"

Thank you,
