Town Meeting: Day Two
The 2008 Annual Town Meeting ended just after 11:30 on Tuesday night, to the surprise and delight of many who had been predicting a three or even four night event. The second night of the 126 article meeting was dominated by zoning articles. After a lengthy debate, voters approved the Harbor Overlay District by the required two-thirds majority on the first major vote of the second day of Town Meeting. Articles 49, which explains the law, 50, which establishes the map of the district on harbor front in town and 51, which maps the district in Madaket, were adopted. Voters also adopted article 70, which expands the instances in which property owners must notify their neighbors of work being done on their property. The article was amended to only apply to the Old Historic Districts in Town and 'Sconset. Article 71, requiring larger numberings at the end of driveways to houses set back from the road, was adopted. Attendance at the second night of the 2008 Annual Town Meeting was significantly lower than Monday with only 309 people, compared to 600 last night.
