ENGAGEMENT Jenne Harker Atherton and
Eric Grainger Verney, both of Nantucket, announce their engagement to be married.
The bride-to-be is the daughter of D. Anne and Rick Atherton of Nantucket and the granddaughter of the late Dorothy and Gilbert Roessner of Spring Lake, N.J. and Virginia R. and the late John W. Atherton of Claremont, Calif. After attending Nantucket public schools, Ms. Atherton graduated from The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, N. J. and Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y., where she received a BA degree with a major in Studio Art and played three varsity sports. She is the owner of Grey Lady Gardens, a small landscaping company on Nantucket. Previously, she was a teacher of environmental art at The Island School on Eleuthera, in the Bahamas.
The prospective groom is the son of Dorothy and Richard Verney of Bennington, N. H., and Nantucket. He is the grandson of the late Frances and David Howard of Kalamazoo, Mich., and the late Virginia and Gilbert Verney of Bennington, N. H., and Nantucket. Mr. Verney graduated from Contoocook Valley Regional High School in Peterborough, N. H., and the University of Rhode Island in Kingston with a BS degree in Urban Horticulture and Turfgrass Management. He is presently a Managing Coordinator for Ernst Land Design, Inc., on Nantucket.
A fall wedding is planned.
• • • Second Lieutenant Robert Caron completed the requirements prescribed by the Commandant of the United States Marine Corps for the Basic Officer's Course on March 19. Diplomas were awarded to 261 Marine Corps Officers at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Va., before an overflow crowd of family and friends. The keynote address and awarding of diplomas was delivered by George W. Smith, Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps and Commanding Officer of the Basic School. The Basic School offers courses in leadership, tactics, logistics, and military history. Second Lieutenant Caron is the son of Janice and Dennis Caron. He will begin training at Fort Sill, Okla. as an Artillery Officer on April 7.

Annie Leigh Ard was born at Nantucket Cottage Hospital on March 25, 2008 weighing 6 pounds and 15 ounces. She is the daughter of Warren H. Ard III and Lauren Ard and sister of Sydney Mary Ard of Nantucket. Her grandparents are Warren H. Ard II of Belfast, Maine, Mira Kim of Houston, Tx., and Brenda Douglas Meehan of Brewer, Maine. Her great-grandmother is Margo Cobb of Brewer, Maine.
Kaelee Robin Hilberg Hunt was born at Nantucket Cottage Hospital on March 21, 2008 weighing 6 pounds and 14 ounces. She is the daughter of Brendon Lee Hunt and Julie Robin Hilberg-Hunt of Nantucket. Her grandparents are Sheri Hunt and Jerry Hunt of Nantucket and Linda Hilberg and the late Robert Hilberg of Pittsburgh, Pa. Her great-grandparents are Edward and Annette Hine of Somerville, N.J. and Francis and Frances Corsello of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Phoenix Elinor Ray was born at Nantucket Cottage Hospital on March 29, 2008 weighing 7 pounds and 15 ounces. She is the daughter of Corey and Sarah Ray and sister of Aslyn Ray of Nantucket. Her grandparents are Linda Carpenter and Larry Ray of Nantucket, and Joan and John Ford and Leo Moe of Minneapolis, Mn. Her great-grandparents are Maurice and Millicent Gibbs and Chester Barrett of Nantucket, Elinor and Bob Pullen of Fort Meyers, Fla., and Robert and Hannah Ray of Palestine, Tx.
