Williams, town reach settlement Both Williams and Town Administrator Libby Gibson confirmed the case was settled, but neither would release details of the settlement because of a confidentially agreement between the two parties. "It was settled to my satisfaction," said Williams, who was fired in September. "I am incredibly pleased with the support I received from the union, the union reps and the attorney. They went to the mat for me and spent a great deal of time on it for me. The system does work." Williams had been an employee of the town for 25 years. Following Williams' termination, Gibson said in a statement, "Ms. Williams no longer works for the town. The Town had legitimate reasons to separate her from employment. While employee personnel actions are pro- tected by privacy rights and cannot be discussed publicly, Ms. Williams was given every opportunity to correct longstanding problems but failed to do so. Ms. Williams may disagree with the town's action, that is her right; however, the town will respond to her complaints through the due process proceedings that are available to her. I cannot comment further at this time." Had a settlement not been reached, a lengthy legal proceeding may have drawn the issue out and been costly to both sides. Williams questioned the reasoning for her termination at the time of her firing, saying she felt it had a "political aspect" to it. She is currently running for a seat on the Planning Board against Selectman Michael Kopko. She also holds a seat on the Historic District Commission and the Nantucket Housing Authority. I |
