DAVE WEBB
BY SAM TOOLE
When someone says physical education at Nantucket High School one man comes to mind: David Webb. He is central to the program and a favorite among students. He possesses a love of sports that is contagious, especially when it comes to badminton. While not teaching he can be found on the slopes or out in his garden. The Nantucket Independent caught up with Dave during gym class in this week's Time Out:

ON SOCCER

S: How long have you been teaching and how did you get into it?

D: This is my 31st year of teaching at NHS. I originally came as a parttime athletic trainer/physical education teacher and that job evolved into my current position.

S: What is your favorite part of teaching Gym/P.E.?

D: Clearly interacting with the students. I truly enjoy working with them on top of the physical activity and sports.

S: What's one of the best teaching moments in your career?

D: I don't know if I can single it out to one single moment. Certainly watching the personal success of students and being involved in coaching and winning eight championships (in several sports). Also being on the David Letterman show with Donic Cary was a highlight.

ON SCHOOL

S: What was your favorite subject in high school?

D: I enjoyed science.

S: How did you become a P.E. teacher?

D: As a youth I'd always enjoyed sports and it seemed like a natural outlet to me. Helping others joined with my love of sports. I tied the two together.

I: How did the Badminton tournament go this year?

D: Badminton Mania had the highest level of participation in its 22 years. We had over 50 teams and 100 players on family day. I like to develop programs that everyone enjoys and looks forward too.

ON MR. WEBB

I: What's on your playlist right now?

D: I've moved away from the Doors to Bob Dylan.

S: What are your interests, other than teaching?

D: I enjoy skiing during the winter time, golf and gardening.

S: What was the last good movie you saw?

D: I saw "Fool's Gold" with my wife and daughter. Quality bonding at

its best. I
