for the ARTS record
WHEATLEY TO WRITE SONGS WITH STUDENTS Canadian singer-songwriter Katherine Wheatley will be on Nantucket March 10-14, conducting songwriting workshops with Nantucket New School students. In addition, NNS will host a concert by Wheatley on March 14 at 6 p.m.

PHOTO COURTESY OF LITTLE, BROWN AND COMPANY Elin Hilderbrand's sixth novel, "A Summer Affair," hits bookstores on the island and across the U.S. on July 2.
"We are thrilled to have Katherine back with us for her second visit to Nantucket," said Head of School David Provost. "She is an incredibly warm and generous performer and her work with the students is one of the highlights of our year."

Wheatley works with each grade level at the school. In one short week they write a melody, lyrics and record a song. The songs the students wrote last year with Wheatley are available on the NNS Web site and are labeled "NNS Songbook." A copy of the CD is also available upon request.

During Wheatley's concert on March 14, the students will perform the songs they have written with her this year.

For ticket information for the concert, call 228- 8569. For more information about NNS, visit www.nantucketnewschool.org.

HILDERBRAND TO PUBLISH NEW NOVEL Adding to her five novels already in print, island author Elin Hilderbrand will have a new summer read in bookstores this July when "A Summer Affair" is published.

The story of society and scandal revolves around Claire Danner Crispin, married to a gorgeous, stellar guy and mother of four lovely kids who all live in a fabulous Nantucket home. Still, she longs for more and risks her family and security for a fling. Crispin, a respected glass-blower, takes on the responsibility for a season fundraiser, and when personalities begin to clash, she finds solace in the arms of the charity's director. Will the affair have substance, or will Hilderbrand's protagonist lose all in the throes of desire? "A Summer Affair," published by Little, Brown and Company, is due out on July 2, just in time for beach reading.

DELAHUNT KICKS OFF ART COMPETITION Congressman Bill Delahunt has announced a regional competition that will showcase the artistic talent and potential of high school students in southeastern Massachusetts.

"I am proud to be a part of a program that fosters the artistic growth of our young people," said Delahunt. "It demonstrates the emphasis we place on the arts in American society and will showcase the exceptional talent we have here on the South Shore and Cape & Islands."

Delahunt, together with the Art Complex Museum of Duxbury, has invited all interested high school students throughout the Tenth Congressional District to take part. The winning entry will be announced at a reception in mid-April, and displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year as part of a national exhibition representing each participating congressional district in the nation. In addition, the winning artist will be offered a four-year renewable scholarship from the Savannah School of Design in Savannah, Ga. that totals $20,000.

Entry forms and artwork are due to Congressman Delahunt's office by April 11. Each school may submit up to 15 entries.
