A THIRD YEAR OF "BIRDING NANTUCKET"

Nantucket Independent columnist Kenneth Turner Blackshaw has published a new collection of writings about birds, "A Year of Birding Nantucket, Volume Three."

"As the great Roger Tory Peterson said, 'Birds have wings, and they use them.' When they do, they often find Nantucket Island," Blackshaw said. "Here, perched between continent and ocean, we are in a spot that is often the last gasp for wind-borne land birds or the first solid ground for weary ocean travelers."

"A Year of Birding, Volume Three" tells the stories of 50 birds observed over the course of a year and is available at Mitchell's Book Corner, Bookworks, Marine Home Center and Geronimo's.

Blackshaw's column, "Birds of Nantucket," appears every week in The Nantucket Independent.
