Madaket sewer plant plans postponed
Design of the proposed Madaket Wastewater Treatment Plant was pushed off until at least 2011 after the Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to shift money from the design phase to more pressing needs. The vote, during a special Thursday meeting last week, shifted some $1.3 million from the estimated $3.2 million needed for the design phase of the Madaket plant to the expansion of existing lines to the Somerset Road area.

In addition to saving $1.9 million, the board also felt it may be jumping the gun to start the Madaket project, tentatively estimated to be in the neighborhood of $68 million, prior to the release of the Estuaries report. Another concern about the Madaket project is the cost and who will foot the bill.

The Madaket plant, which town officials hope to build on land owned by the federal government, will only serve around 600 households. I
