TAYLOR THAYER
Sophomore; Assistant Captain, Hockey
BY SAM TOOLE
After a rough beginning to the season the Whalers hockey team is looking to get a few wins under its belt before the season closes. Assistant Captain Taylor Thayer hopes to be part of this upward trend. He has played since sixth grade and is a force to be reckoned with on the ice. An avid athlete, he also enjoys golf, lacrosse and snowboarding. The Nantucket Independent caught up with Taylor after an indoor lacrosse game in this week's Time Out:
ON HOCKEY
Sam: How do you think your season is going so far?
Taylor: We've gotten off to a rough start after graduating most of our team last year. We acquired twelve freshmen this year, though, so we have a promising future and our team has been improving every game as the season goes on.
S: What position do you play?
T: I play defense. When I first started playing hockey I played right wing for a couple of years before switching to defense.
S: What's been the top highlight of your career to date?
T: My game-winning goal in my first game as a high school hockey player. I scored with 30 seconds left to beat Dennis-Yarmouth at home.
ON SCHOOL
S: What has been your favorite class this year?
T: Photo with Ms. Morris because she is a great teacher and I really enjoy taking photographs.
S: Who has been your favorite teacher during your high school career?
T: Mr. Laredo, because he's a great teacher and I learned a lot in his class. I also just enjoy history.
S: What event are you most looking forward to during your sophomore year?
T: Lacrosse season because I feel that our team is promising and I really enjoy lacrosse.
ON TAYLOR
S: What's on your playlist right now?
T: I'm listening to Lupe Fiasco and I'm a big Red Hot Chili Peppers and Sublime fan.
S: What was the last good movie you saw?
T: Not to sound like everyone else, but I'd have to say "Superbad" because it's really funny.
S: What are your other interests?
T: I'm on the golf and lacrosse team;
photography, and snowboarding. I
