Island Waves compete in Virginia
      Nantucket's pre-juvenile synchronized skating team, the Island Waves, was one of 17 teams to take part in a synchronized skating competition in Richmond, Va. on Jan. 25 and 26. The Waves competed well in the qualifying round and made it through to the finals.

Girls continue to roll
      The Lady Whalers clinched a postseason playoff berth and improved to 12-1 on the season with three wins in the past week. At home against Provincetown Monday, Angela Paterson had 23 points, Aileen Fredericks had nine and Lindsay Fry and Whitney Butler scored eight in the 68-20 win.
