Nantucket Memorial Airport Terminal News
WEEKLY UPDATE Airport opens temporary secure ticketing area Today, most of Nantucket Memorial Airport's ticketing areas will open for business in three connected temporary 24-foot-by 64 foot trailers located on the runway ramp in front of the main terminal. These ticketing trailers will serve JetBlue, USAIR, Delta, Continental and Cape Air's flights to Boston and Providence, essentially all secure commercial flight operations. The non-security flights of Cape Air and Island Air are now operating out of the annex building just west of Alice's Restaurant at that end of the terminal building. Nantucket Shuttle will operate in its existing location

TRAVELER IMPACT Limited facilities Airline passengers on the above airlines will enter the terminal as they always do, but walk straight through the automatic doors onto the ramp and into the southernmost trailer. Ticketed passengers will then walk to the left, passing into the middle trailer for security screening.

Finally, screened passengers move to the third trailer to await their flights where there are snack and beverage vending machines, but no bathrooms until the spring when Port-a-Potties will eventually be added as the weather warms.

AIRLINE NEWS Service information U.S. Airways is suspending its New York service Feb. 10 to March 31

The Nantucket Memorial Airport terminal work includes additions and renovations totaling around 18,000 square feet, the most notable of which is a new wing off the east end of the existing main terminal facing the hangar area. When finished, all flights to Boston and New York will pass through this new wing and baggage will be screened there through the Transportation Safety Administration's new baggage screening equipment. Other additions to the building will face the parking lot off the main terminal and will free up office and ticket counter space by removing maintenance storage below the air traffic control tower and widening that part of the terminal northward so all the ticket counters can be located in the same area. The parking configuration will stay the same, as will drop off and pick up. The project cost of $26 million is being borne by the Federal Aviation Administration: $9 million, airport fees: $5 million and Massachusetts Aeronautics Commission: $12 million.
