Moving to Nantucket was a little bit like coming home for new Assistant Town Manager Malachy Rice, who began working in the town's selectmen's office on Monday. Malachy was raised on Cape Cod, but has been living in Maryland and wanted to return to this area where his family still lives. After seeing a posting for the position on the Massachusetts Municipal Association's Web site, Malachy inquired about the job and was chosen over all other candidates. For the last seven years he worked for the Maryland General Assembly and was lead analyst for the House Appropriations Committee at the state legislature in Annapolis. "I have ties to the region, I wanted to return to the Cape and Islands area and the job interested me," he said yesterday morning between making the rounds of town offices to meet his colleagues. "Nantucket is obviously a beautiful place to be and I was impressed with the professionalism of the town administration staff. I was very impressed with how Nantucket is doing things."
