MMS delays Cape Wind decision
      Cape Wind Associates will have to wait one month longer for the Minerals Management Service's ruling on its 130 wind turbines proposed for Nantucket Sound. Minerals Management Service spokesman Nicholas Pardi said last week that the federal agency is likely to issue Cape Wind's Final Environmental Impact Statement by the end of January 2009.

Scallopers call for easier definition for seed
      Nantucket's scallopers are trying to change the state definition for bay scallop seed by asking the Division of Marine Fisheries to add language to shellfish laws stating the seed must also be defined by being less than one inch thick.

Hospital asks Board of Health not to cut contribution to human service agencies
      With the island experiencing an increase in the number of suicides over the past two years, physicians and social workers from Nantucket Cottage Hospital and directors of the island's social service agencies made an appeal to the Nantucket Board of Health last week not to cut the town's contribution to the island's mental health and human service agencies.

Habitat breaks ground in Feb.
      In early February, Habitat for Humanity is hoping to break ground on its affordable housing unit for prospective homebuyers on Nantucket. A three-bedroom, two-bath home will be built on a portion of a 2.2-acre lot at 11 Monohansett Road that Habitat will lease from Housing Nantucket.
