      As this is written, it is Tuesday. Tomorrow, inevitably will be Wednesday. Unlike the usual transition from one weekday to another, chances are that that the landscape will be very different tomorrow morning than it is today.

      T he return to standard time, the nip in the air and swirling leaves encourages us to scurry to the hearth and changes our focus to all things warm and cozy. Out comes the down comforter, down come the storm windows and up goes the heat.

      As I write this, Halloween is approaching, and today seems like a day for spooky occurrences. I turned the page on my "Bird-a-Day" calendar, and there, staring out at me, was a photo of this week's bird. It's a rather eerie, haunting-looking visage - piercing yellow eyes peering out from the glossy black head.

Cozy Cottage Chic
      I recently trimmed some berrycovered branches from the roadside and put them in a vase in my living room. When I introduced the greenery to my home, I realized my little cottage looks very summery all year 'round and the wintery branches looked very out of place. I decided it was time to give the place a cozy winter makeover.

      Bill Connell and his Clean Teamers just will not go away until the island is spotless. Taking a short hiatus from the hectic summer/early fall season of picking up after delinquent Nantucketers, the Clean Team is organizing what are probably the last two cleaning sessions of 2008.
