Selectmen take taxi license transfer request under advisement — again
      A-1 Taxi owner John "Mousey" Grangrade felt optimistic when he took a seat last Thursday before the start of his second major public hearing on his request to have the selectmen transfer his four cab licenses to his manager. Grangrade plans to sell the 30-year-old business and retire.

Tejada pleads guilty to running over people in Muse parking lot
      A Nantucket man will serve twoand a-half years in jail after admitting to plowing his car through a crowded parking lot, running over two people and pinning a third between the car he was driving and a parked vehicle he smashed into.

Lady Martha catches fire
      No one was seriously injured when an engine room fire broke out aboard the Hy-Line ferry Lady Martha shortly before the vessel arrived at Hyannis Harbor from Oak Bluffs Thursday morning. Hy-Line spokesman Philip Scudder said the six passengers aboard disembarked safely in Hyannis.

Pepper Frazier of Nantucket. Her grandparents are Edward T. Conrad, Aileen P. Conrad, J. Pepper Frazier and Elizabeth P. Frazier, all of Nantucket.

      Molly Harding and Joseph Manning were married at the Sankaty Beach Club in Siasconset on Saturday, June 14. Reverend Ted Anderson officiated. Ms. Harding, 32, is a registered nurse at Nantucket Physicians Care. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College, where she received a B.A. in biological sciences, and received her B.S.N. from Columbia University.

Mitchell's Book Corner to move for winter
      Over the course of the next few months, Mitchell's Book Corner at 54 Main St. will undergo some dramatic renovations to make it more energy efficient, stronger structurally and handicap accessible. In the meantime, the bookstore will relocate to the Greenhound building at 10 and 12 Washington St. and gain a little space and some handy parking.

HDC balancing preservation with structural safety in Dreamland
      The Nantucket Dreamland Foundation returned to the HDC on Sept. 17 to continue hearing the commission's critique of the Foundation's architectural plans for the restored theater building and its Easy Street addition drawn by CBT Architects of Boston, Mass. The commissioners toured the building last week, having first seen the plans at their Sept. 9 meeting.

Housing Nantucket, Town and Dreamland Foundation each ask for $1 million
      Over $5-million in requests for Community Preservation Act funding was submitted to the Community Preservation Committee on Sept. 12, with the Town of Nantucket filing nine requests totaling $1,523,000 to fund projects in housing initiatives and recreation.
