      His face will be new to islanders, but Peter Swenson, Executive Director of Nantucket Behavioral Health of Family and Children's Services has known Tim Cummings for 15 years and is very pleased he has taken the role as Director of the Student Assistance Program.

Nantucket Green nature soap
      Lynn Tucker, a skin care specialist, developed Nantucket Green nature soap and will donate a portion of the product's sales to the Linda Loring Nature Foundation. When the Loring property on Eel Point Road was permanently protected by a conservation restriction held by the Nantucket Land Council, Tucker was motivated to also give something back to the community.

HOW FAR TO BUENOS AIRES?
      Workers strip the paint off the Compass Rose on the Washington Street side of the Ralph Lauren building in an effort to restore the mural, which was originally painted in 1936 by photographer H. Marshall Gardiner. A similar effort to restore the center portion of the mural was undertaken in 2006.

ConCom closes Madaket Marine's marina expansion hearing
Order of conditions appears imminent on Aug. 27
      Madaket Marine needs a Conservation Commission order of conditions to proceed with its marina expansion project. In an unusual move, the ConCom did not issue an order of conditions for the marina expansion when it met on Aug. 13 because the Conservation Commission staff did not have a draft order typed for that meeting.

Town might miss out on $2.5 million from state for bike path
      The Hummock Pond Road bike path is on a list of projects to be funded through the state's 2009 Transportation Bond; however, the "check for $2.5 million is not in the mail" according to State Representative Erik Turkington. Turkington said every year the state puts together a list of projects it hopes to fund, totaling more than $1.

      T om Nevers seasonal resident Jack Warner said the fear of getting Lyme disease has many Tom Nevers residents afraid to go out in their yards. Surfside summer resident Ned Fawcett, chairman of the Surfside Area Plan Workgroup, wants the town to pay closer attention to the safety issues of the Boulevarde.

The Internship Experience: The NHA
      The Nantucket Historical Association is one of many local organizations that employ interns for the summer months. Roundabout proposed near high school
      The Planning Department is proposing another roundabout, this one at the intersection of Atlantic and Sparks avenues, Prospect Street and Surfside Road, to alleviate congestion in this area. "I think we need to do something here," said NP&EDC member Barry Rector after hearing Transportation Planner Michael Burns' presentation to the commission on Aug. 4.

OPERA HOUSE CUP RACE
      Sailboats round Great Point this past Sunday during the 36th anniversary of the Opera House Cup Race. The Race was founded by Gwen Gaillard, owner of the Opera House Restaurant, in 1972. The Opera House Cup is the culmination of Race Week, the main fundraising event for the nonprofit Nantucket Community Sailing.

A wild ride Demo Derby celebrates 30th year
      H undreds of fans sat on the hill and tailgated at Tom Nevers Field this Saturday as the drivers of the first six cars revved their engines in preparation for the mayhem that would ensue. The cars were painted bright colors and had names such as Mad Paddies, Mighty Mouse and Lucy the Wild.
