"Grease is the Word"
Hit musical "Grease" opens tomorrow with a look back to the era of slicked-back hair, poodle skirts, Elvis and the Edsel.
      The rolicking musical "Grease," about teens in love in the 1950s, opens as the latest Theatre Workshop of Nantucket main stage show tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 7 at 5 p.m. in Bennett Hall.

"The Little Mermaid" opens on August 14
      T he moving tale of "The Little Mermaid," with all its twists and turns, ending happily ever after, will be acted by the Theatre Workshop of Nantucket's Resident and Children's Theatre Conservatory Camp companies in six performances beginning on August 14 at Bennett Hall.

TWN children's theatre brings "Pinocchio" to Bennett Hall on Aug. 11
      T he classic story of the little wooden puppet whose nose grew when he told a lie is coming to the Theatre Workshop of Nantucket stage at Bennett Hall starting August 11. Featuring the talents of TWN's Resident and Children's Theatre Conservatory Camp companies, "Pinocchio" is directed by Roberta Esposito.

The 12th annual Boston Pops brings dynamic music to Jetties Beach on August 9
      Clear your calendar for Saturday night, Aug. 9 when the 12th annual Boston Pops concert to benefit Nantucket Cottage Hospital will spread uplifting music across the expanse of Jetties Beach with a program called "Make Mine Bernstein," in honor of the famous composer Leonard Bernstein.

Singer to perform with Pops
      Joel Grey promises to sing songs from the Broadway musical "Cabaret," when he performs with the Boston Pops at Jetties Beach this Saturday, August 9 at 7 p.m. to benefit the Nantucket Cottage Hospital.

Odds Bodkin and the art of storytelling
      Renowned storyteller Odds Bodkin will be on Nantucket for the 7th Annual Storytelling Festival, hosted by the Lighthouse School this Friday and Saturday. Bodkin will be one of several storytellers present, but perhaps the only one who actively encourages parents to delve into the art of storytelling, in addition to wowing island youngsters.

Musical Arts Society presents St. Petersburg String Quartet
      First violinist Alla Aranovskaya, second violinist Alla Krolevich and cellist Leonid Shukayev met more than 25 years ago when they were students at the prestigious Leningrad Conservatory in Russia. The three of them are founding members of the St. Petersburg String Quartet formed in 1985.
