The rain fell. The wind blew. And baseball ensued. A thin layer of mist and fog rose with the early evening wind as twenty-some baseball enthusiasts gathered at the Tom Nevers Baseball Field last Thursday. More ... So it's the Fourth of July again. Flint gets to shower the people on Main Street with water and we all get to watch yet another magnificent Fourth of July fireworks display. It's almost ubiquitous here on Nantucket to have fireworks to celebrate something. I mean, there's nothing like a wedding or a plunging stock price to justify dumping heavy metals into the ocean. Jim Sjolund, a junior at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, took top honors for the Maddequet Admiralty Association in last weekend's East West Fishing Tournament with a 19.76 lb. striped bass and a 9.16 lb. bluefish. The East West Tournament is a joint effort of the Anglers Club and the Maddequet Admiralty to benefit their respective scholarship programs. More ... Could there be pelicans on Nantucket? "Not generally before cocktail hour," would be my first response. But birds have wings and they use them and pelicans are excellent fliers. How about a pelican in winter? Even more unlikely.
