      Maritime on Nantucket may sound like an unnecessary combination of words, but when it comes to Nantucket's maritime art, it is anything but redundant. This collection of art encompasses such styles as impressionism, surrealism, lithographs, collographs and sketches. Then there are the different mediums including watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel, pen and ink, and bronze.

      NEW BOOK HIGHLIGHTS GREATER LIGHT Island author Betsy Tyler has just released a new book entitled, "Greater Light: A House History of Gertrude and Hanna Monaghan's Summer Home on Nantucket." Tyler, a professional librarian and free-lance historical researcher and writer, is the author of more than a dozen house-history books for the Nantucket Preservation Trust.

Equal parts function and recognizable form

      Part 2 of 2 Maibec, headquartered in Sainte-Foy, Quebec, Canada, produces 300,000 squares of Eastern white cedar shingles annually, selling an estimated 7,000 squares on Nantucket last year. Wood shingles are sold in squares, with four bundles of shingles in each square totaling 100 square feet of wall coverage.

      "It's the face that gets me!" Rachel Labbee, Geronimo's Assistant Buyer, is effusive about her dog Ruby, an adorable, grunting, comically-visaged white Bulldog. Rachel isn't alone in her attraction for the iconic breed, as demonstrated by the American Kennel Club's (AKC) recently announced breed rankings for the most popular dogs in 2007.
