Whalers host Mattacheese
The young Whalers of Cyrus Peirce came out firing against Mattacheese last Thursday afternoon, with the first Nantucket points of the day coming on an Andrew Benson 3-pointer, but the more experienced visitors rode a steady effort and swarming defense to a 45-16 victory.

Although Nantucket led by a point after Benson's early score, Mattacheese patiently attacked the basket. The home team held on through three periods, but Mattacheese ran away with it in the fourth quarter.

Coach Jeremiah Splaine said the first game of the season will serve as a teaching tool for his young squad. "It was a learning experience," he noted.

Benson led Nantucket with 11 points, followed by Corey Woolfolk with 2 points, Zach Moran with 2 points and Murphy Crowell with 1 point.
