GAVEN NORTON Junior Hockey Captain

After a decent season last year, the boys' hockey team is looking to improve this season and junior captain Gaven Norton hopes to lead by example. Always a hockey player, he started his career on the basketball courts behind the high school on inline skates. Now he has evolved into a demon on the ice and will skate by anyone in his way. While not at the rink, he's either at the beach surfing, playing lacrosse or just hanging out with friends. The Nantucket Independent caught up with him after the basketball game in this week's Time Out:

ON HOCKEY

Sam: How do you think your season is going to go?

Gaven: I think it's going to go well. We have a strong team and new coaches who will help us win games. We also have a lot of new freshmen such as Gary Caruso and Alex Perkins who are both on first line.

S: What position do you play?

G: I play center. This is my first year though. Last year and freshmen year, I played right wing. And all through youth hockey I played defense.

S: What's been the top highlight for your career to date?

G: Scoring the tying goal last year at the home Vineyard game with five seconds left.

ON SCHOOL

S: What has been your favorite class this year?

G: Algebra 2 with Ms. Sourian because it's fun and easy to understand.

S: Who has been your favorite teacher your high school career?

G: Mr. Liddle because he was a fun teacher and made learning fun.

S: What event are you most looking forward to during your junior year?

G: Prom, because I like to dance and I've been looking forward to it a while.

ON GAVEN

S: What's on your playlist right now?

G: I listen to rap and hip-hop, anything that gets me pumped. Right now I'm listening to a lot of 50 Cent, Lil' Wayne and Soulja Boy.

S: What was the last good movie you saw?

G: "Superbad" because it was hilarious.

S: What are your other interests?

G: Lacrosse, surfing and hanging

out with friends. I
