Boys fall short in opener at Mashpee
The boys basketball team traveled to Mashpee for the season opener last Friday in what coach Beau Almodobar called a "learning lesson."

Although the final score was 69-58, the Whalers fought hard in the second half. "We got off to a slow start," Almodobar said. "They came out and scored 11 points and that's what we lost by."

Jordan Ferreira had 21 points and 21 rebounds, Delroy Lawrence contributed with 17 points and 16 rebounds and Evan Hourihan netted 11 points, including three 3-pointers.

"We got off to a slow start," Almodobar said. "That's what hurt us. We outscored them in the second half."

The Whalers also cut their turnovers in the second half from 15 to 5. "That first half kind of put us behind the eight ball," Almodobar noted.

The Whalers next play at home Friday against Blue Hills in a game scheduled for 3 p.m. "We haven't played them in a couple of years," Almodobar said. "We'll have to take care of the basketball

and limit our turnovers." I
