At Home In Any Era
Michael Angelastro Coffin Real Estate $1,395,000
Naushop is a neighborhood designed to echo the Old Historic District of Nantucket. Here, the homes are close to the street. There is a grandness of presentation. The architecture is varied, yet consistent in massing, height and tone. Sidewalks are brick, trimmed with granite curbing. Picket fences and privet hedges tie one lot to the next in a uniform and formal way.

In many ways, the home at 57 Goldfinch Drive is the epitome of this concept, for one could lift this magnificent home up from its foundation and place it on Upper Main, or Gardner or Fair or Orange streets and it would feel right at home among houses that are 150 years its senior. The white, clapboard-front, Greek revival, with its square, covered, front porch suspended by a pair of plain white columns, is a prime example of a home that remain true to the idea of building with the island's heritage in mind.

Day-to-day, you will most likely enter your new home via the side entrance, which is accessible from the two-car parking area, by walking straight ahead along the rough flagstone walkway. Once inside the 15- divided-light French door, you'll find a mudroom with a large coat closet. From there, the way leads easily to the most used room in the house - the kitchen.

Guests, however, will likely enter the home via the dramatic front door. One can easily picture holiday gatherings here, as friends and family arrive in the front foyer and make their way effortlessly to the right where a warm fire in the gas fireplace greets them. The woodwork here, which consists of clean, bright, white wainscoting and crown molding detail, ties the entire first floor together. The dusty olive walls and the rich, antique-stained pine floors contrast nicely with the white of the trim and wainscoting.

Beyond the living room is the dining area which is adjacent to the kitchen. The kitchen is a wonderfully designed space. The best kitchens are both inviting and highly functional and this one succeeds on both counts. It features bold, dark, polished stone countertops and cream-colored cabinetry of the highest quality. The appliances - a full-size side-by-side refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher and a large four-burner gas range - are brushed stainless steel with black accents that work perfectly with the dark countertops. At the center of the kitchen space is a massive island that serves as both an expanse of prep space and an accommodating breakfast bar.

The second floor features two bedrooms, one of which is the master suite with a large walk-in closet and an opulent bath with a jacuzzi tub, dual sinks and a multi-jet shower. The second bedroom offers its own bath as well. Also on the second floor is a walk-in laundry room and linen closet, ideally located so that laundry travels the shortest possible distance from dirty to clean and back again.

The third floor offers two bright and sunny bedrooms which share a single full bath. From the back bedroom, you will get the best view of the flagstone patio, the massive private back yard (one of the benefits of having one of the largest lots in Naushop) and acres of adjoining conservation land owned by the Nantucket Land Bank.

In addition to three floors of finished living space, 57 Goldfinch Drive features an unfinished (and cavernous) basement with 10 foot ceilings. This means that it can easily be converted to a playroom, workshop or home theater space without sacrificing headroom.

This completely new four-bedroom, three-and-one-half-bath home in a highly desirable neighborhood is

offered at $1,395,000. I
