JV's end season against Blue Hills
Playing their last game of the season, the Whalers' junior varsity held an 8-0 edge over visiting Blue Hills for most of the game last Wednesday afternoon, but the visitors prevailed in the end, 16-8.

After tying the game in the fourth quarter, Blue Hills scored again with just 40 seconds remaining in the contest.

Nantucket scored with a little over three minutes to go in the first period, when Jamison Viera scored on a 47-yard touchdown run. The conversion points came on a pass from Ryan Trainor to Josh Sibley-Liddle.

Coach Dennis Caron said the junior Whalers put in a good effort against a more experienced team. "Blue Hills was all sophomores and juniors, and we were all freshmen and sophomores," he noted. "I was really pleased with the spirit with which we played the game."

Liddle returned to the team after being out for most of the year with a broken collarbone. Good efforts were also put in by defensive end Matthew Merritt and Kevin McLean, who played both flanker and safety positions.

For the first time in recent memory, the junior varsity will not face their Martha's Vineyard counterparts in a season ending game. Instead, many on the junior varsity squad will move up to the varsity for Saturday's contest.
