AT ITS MEETING TONIGHT, OCT. 24, THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN WILL FIRST CONVENED AS THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AND:

PattyRoggeveen
• Hold a public hearing to consider accepting a sidewalk easement over portions of South Beach and Sea streets where Nantucket Island Resorts is building condominium hotel units.

• Ratify a determination regarding a financial interest disclosure for the Nantucket member of the Steamship Authority, H. Flint Ranney. The financial interest involves the SSA's free transportation policy for current and former SSA members and their spouses. The commissioners wrote the State Ethics Commission that it is not believed that Ranney's financial interest is substantial enough to affect his participation as an SSA board member.

CONVENING AS THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN, MEMBERS WILL:

• Hear a request from Nantucket Airport for a waiver of a building permit fee for its terminal expansion project.

• Hear a citizen request for a waiver from street opening regulations.

• Hear a town administrator's request for a vote regarding town-owned parcels at the landfill.

• Hear a request for clarification of language regarding pending legislation approved at the 2007 Annual Town Meeting.

• Hear selectmen's reports, if any.

AT ITS MEETING OCT. 17, MEMBERS:

• Unanimously approved variance requests for septic systems in Madaket at 10 Tennessee Ave., 24 Washington St., 310 Madaket Road and 10 C St.

CONVENING AS THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN, MEMBERS:

• Heard a proclamation denoting October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

• Heard concerns from Great Harbor Yacht Club attorney Sarah Alger regarding a request by the Nantucket Land Council to have municipal employees testify against the town in an appeal of the Conservation Commission permit for Great Harbor Yacht Club. The Land Council is appealing the superceding order granted for the club by the Department of Environmental Protection. Of concern is the issue of taxpayer money being used to pay town counsel in his defense of the ConCom when the Land Council seeks to have the harbormaster, town biologist and selectmen Willauer and Kopko sign affidavits supporting its DEP appeal. The members decided to further discuss the matter in executive session.

• Unanimously approved a request from the Nantucket New School for temporary pouring and entertainment licenses for its Nov. 17 fundraiser.

• Unanimously approved Rick Ulmer's resignation from the Finance Committee due to his work schedule and family obligations and voted to send him a letter of thanks for his service.

• Took no action on a Verizon request for a pole location on Candle House Lane but unanimously approved its request for a pole location on Union Street and a National Grid request regarding manhole and duct locations on Easton Street.

• Unanimously approved waivers from the Sanitary Sewer Policy for 67 Surfside Road and on Saltmarsh Road.

• Postponed a planning director's report on the conceptual use and goals for property at 2 Candle St. which has been discussed as being a potential site for a transportation hub.
