Killen Real Estate $5,300,000
King of the Hill
One of the first things you'll notice as you approach the property at Six Kite Kill is the elegant curve of the shell driveway. It feels like a cul-de-sac at the end of Kite Hill Lane, but the circular drive is private. In the midst of Nantucket's Indian summer splendor, the sunlight is filtered through tall, leafy hardwoods and the leaves, which have just begun to fall, dot the bright white drive. As you approach the property, your attention is drawn to the main home, which sits at the apex of the circle, slightly obscured by a large maple in the center of the driveway. The home almost seems to hold court over the neighborhood, sitting on high and presenting a feeling of weight, permanence and solidity. Its quoin corners and the columns that flank the front entryway add to this effect. Two stone Chinese lions greet you on the front step. And the clapboard, which is painted a rich coffee color, is both understated and stately. The message this façade conveys is clear: this is a home of substance.

Step inside and you are instantly bathed in warmth and charm. The front sitting room is the first thing you see (Many traditional homes on the island have a formal front foyer, but this wonderful home foregoes the mystery and present the visitor with living space straight away). This room which is bathed in light on sunny mornings, features a broad coffered ceiling and a warm, inviting fireplace (one of four throughout the home). To your right is a small and well designed study/home office with several well crafted built-in cabinets and shelves. This room also features large, sunny windows and an excellent view of approaching guests and deliveries.

As you venture deeper into the first floor, you find yourself in a wide kitchen and dining room. This space is divided only by sight lines, but the division is almost tangible.

On your left is the kitchen; large with plenty of counter space The counters are tight-grain, eastern maple, butcher block, a surface that shows its luster and character with regular applications of mineral oil and is highly functional as well. The center island, however, is topped by a massive slab of cream colored stone that displays a colorful roadmap of fissures and figures, interrupted only by a small oval sink. This 6' x 9' island is an impressive prep space that doubles as a breakfast bar, or overflow seating during large family dinners. The appliances here are simple, elegant stainless steel. The floors are reclaimed and expertly maintained antique pine.

On your right is the dining area. At its center is a unique chandelier which appears to be a chunky, converted pot rack with six golden (brass) geese and a multitude of sturdy hooks. This room also features a large fireplace. At the rear of the dining area is a quiet window seat with hidden built-in shelves - the ideal place to get lost in a good book.

At the rear of the first floor is the family room, with another fireplace, and a pair of French doors leading to a broad outdoor deck. The back yard sits beyond. From here, you can traverse a narrow path representing deeded access directly to West Chester Street. Coffin Park sits directly behind the house, which greatly multiplies the outdoor space available for you and your family.

On the second floor, the Master suite features a high, dramatic, chamfered ceiling, plenty of built-in storage and a large master bath with an inset soaking tub. There are two additional, sizeable bedrooms, each with its own full bath. A perfectly sited laundry room is equidistant from all of the bedrooms.

On the third floor are two additional children's rooms with built-in day beds. They share a full bath..

A cozy one bedroom cottage is also part of this property. It features a large first floor with an open sitting area, a kitchenette, fireplace, a full bath and laundry, with an ample bedroom and full bath on the second floor.

This stately home with six bedrooms and five and one

half baths is offered at $5,300,000. I
