AT ITS MEETING TONIGHT, OCT. 17, THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN WILL FIRST CONVENE AS THE BOARD OFHEALTH:
• Hear variance requests for septic systems in Madaket at 10 Tennessee Ave., 24 Washington St., 310 Madaket Road and 10 C St., and a sewer extension request for Saltmarsh Road in Monomoy.

CONVENING AS THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN, MEMBERS WILL:
• Hear a proclamation denoting October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
• Hear a request from the Nantucket New School for temporary pouring and entertainment licenses for its Nov. 17 fundraiser.
• Hear of Rick Ulmer's resignation from the Finance Committee due to his work schedule and family obligations.
• Hold a public hearing on K. Keith and Elizabeth Roe's appeal of a Historic District Commission certificate of appropriateness.
• Hold public hearings on Verizon requests for new pole locations and relocation.
• Hold a public hearing on a National Grid petition for installation of manhole and duct locations on Easton and North Water streets.
• Hold public hearings on requests for waivers from the Sanitary Sewer Policy for low capacity force mains at 67 Surfside Road and another on Saltmarsh Road.

• Hear a review from the planning director on conceptual use and goals for property at 2 Candle St.
• Hear a request from the planning director for the selectmen's endorsement of 2 Candle St. as a designated site for expedited permitting.
AT ITS MEETING ON OCT. 10, THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN:
• Reminded the public that citizen articles for the 2008 Annual Town Meeting may be submitted between Oct. 12 and Nov. 23 and require at least 10 signatures from registered voters.
• Held a moment of silence to remember the late Kate MacLellan and acknowledge her family.
• Unanimously approved a change order requested by DPW Superintendent Jeff Willett for the Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade. The change reduces the cost from $44.6 million estimated in 2006 to $43.4 million. Willett also asked that employee housing in the form of four apartments in two town-owned duplexes be reintroduced to the project as well as some landscaping.

• Unanimously denied a citizen request (continued from Oct. 3) from Beverly Topham, widow of Alvin "Toppy" Topham, to have his taxi license transferred to her name.
• Unanimously approved a request from Nantucket Island Resorts for acceptance of easements for sidewalk purposes over portions of South Beach and Sea streets in accordance with Planning Board conditions for the Harbor House Village rebuilding project.
• Unanimously approved a request from the Nantucket Land Council for a conservation restriction at 24 Washing Pond Road.
• Unanimously approved a request to name a private way off Hummock Pond Road as Oak Hollow Lane.
• Heard a town administrator's report on the cost of health insurance coverage for current and future town retirees.
• Unanimously approved the design status for the Public Safety Facility at 2 Fairgrounds Road. There will be an informational public meeting on the project at the fire station on Oct. 25 from 6 to 7 p.m. Some change is proposed to include moving the building further inwards on the property and a town Web site is to be constructed showing the potential positioning to allow the public to offer opinions.
