"Life's a Campaign: What Politics Has Taught Me About Friendship,
Rivalry, Reputation and Success"
by Chris Matthews Fresh off the studio floor of Hardball with Chris Matthews," Matthews has penned his fifth book released yesterday. Full of insider stories from the political scene, Matthews' book lets you in on the secrets that the politicians have known all along when it comes to succeeding. Matthews' style of writing is as interesting, passionate and energetic as his interviewing skills. He will be at the Unitarian Church on Saturday and will be signing copies of his book at Mitchell's Book Corner directly thereafter. Make sure you don't miss this wonderful opportunity to play hardball with the master!

"Engleby: A Novel"
by Sebastian Faulks In this very funny and highly disturbing book, Sebastian Faulks (bestselling author of "Birdsong") writes in the voice of a highly unreliable narrator: "My name is Mike Engleby, and I'm in my second year at an ancient university" he announces. Our antihero is clearly intelligent, but with his memory lapses and solitary nature, we quickly realize something is amiss. When a fellow student with whom Mike is obsessed goes missing, we are left with the compellingly uncomfortable challenge of figuring out what went on. I loved this book despite its twisted topic, and recommend it highly to readers looking for something novel in their literary fiction.

"Nicolas, Where Have You Been?"
by Leo Lionni
Four-time Caldecott honor winner Leo Lionni published this story in 1987. Like many of his animal fables, "Nicolas" teaches children a valuable lesson through a simple but evocative story. Nicolas Mouse is snatched up by a big, ugly bird, the beginning of a long and amazing adventure. When he returns to tell the other mice his story, they interrupt him with, "Down with the birds! War on the birds!" When Nicolas is finally allowed to finish his story, the mice reach a very different conclusion. Re-published now on its twentieth anniversary, Lionni's tale of Nicolas Mouse holds fresh meaning for readers and listeners of all ages

"Jericho: Season 1"
(Non-Rated)
The small town of Jericho is like any other little Midwest town. When Jake Green (Skeet Ulrich) returns to Jericho, he finds the town exactly as he left it. His father is still mayor. His best friend is working his farm. His fiancé still lives down the street. But after the first episode of this series, things in Jericho will never be the same. Looking out over the Kansas plains, everyone in town can see a mushroom cloud off in the distance as Denver is destroyed by a nuclear bomb. Suddenly, this small town that never really had to deal with any major issue must figure out how to survive an apocalypse. What do you do when a nuclear cloud is about to rain down on everyone in your town? How do you feed and care for all your citizens without power or supplies? And how do you defend yourself when your neighbors attack? Jericho must deal with these questions and more as they try to survive in a new world. This fabulous show was almost cancelled after its first season but has been brought back due to tremendous fan support. Watch Jericho: Season 1 on DVD and then watch season 2 on TV or else this excellent show will disappear.
