Moran, Field hockey squad anticipate road ahead
After enduring a tough schedule that saw them play four games in two weeks on the road, the field hockey team has had a week off to prepare for Sunday's game against Norwood, with the contest pushed back a day to accommodate Saturday's SATs.

"We have a whole week to prepare for a tough run," head coach Lori Moran said, looking ahead to games next Tuesday, Wednesday (both home games against Mashpee and Sturgis), Friday and Saturday (away at Durfee and Cohasset). "We have a much tougher schedule than we had last year," Moran noted. "We're getting into the middle of the season now so we're hoping to get some wins."
With a 3-6 record, the Lady Whalers look to build on last Friday's 5-2 victory at Sturgis that saw Shelby Campbell, Emily Pitts and Ashley Clinger (with an assist from Jessica Norris) score in the first half and Andrea Morelli (off a beautiful cross from Campbell) and Cassie Moran complete the scoring in the second half. "Five different scorers, I like that," coach Moran said. "We also had 21 shots on net."

The team appears poised to counter the three losses it endured before beating Sturgis. "We're young," Moran points out, "but they're very hard working. We hope to even our record by the middle of October."
Seeing action on the varsity is sophomore goaltender Casey Kurash, who had a trial by fire against Falmouth last week, facing down 22 shots. Backing up Kurash on defense is junior co-captain Rachel Siegel and senior sweeper Marissa Moran. At midfield, juniors Lia Newman and Grace Anne Tornovish continue to play solidly, while senior co-captains Jessica Norris and Cassie Moran are anchors at the forward position.
With 8 games to play, the mission is to make the tournament. "We're looking forward to it," Moran
said. Sunday's game is scheduled for 1 p.m. I
