Time Out
CASSIE MORAN
Captain: field hockey, basketball, softball

BY SAM TOOLE
Although field hockey has had a little bit of a rough start this year, Whaler field hockey captain and four year player Cassie Moran has faith in a resurgence during the second half of the season. On top of that she is also the basketball and softball captain and already has her eyes set on a profession either in law or politics.

The Nantucket Independent caught up with Cassie for this week's Time Out:

On Field Hockey:

Sam: How has the season gone so far?

Cassie: We're 2-5 right now, but our schedule is really difficult. Most losses have been by one goal so we're hoping to beat every team we lost to. We're a really good team; I think we'll make it to the tournament.

S: What position do you play?

C: Forward, but it's not a normal forward position that I play. I don't really have a set position - I do a little bit of everything.

S: What's been the top highlight of your career to date?

C: Last year in the Vineyard game I made a penalty stroke to tie the game. It was pretty cool.

S: What has been your favorite class in high school?

C: English with Ms. Phaneuf. I like her as a teacher and I just enjoy English. I like to read and write.

S: Who has been your favorite teacher?

C: Senora Surprenant. I've known her since I was around 4, and on top of that I really like Spanish."

S: Have you started to make a college list yet?

C: Bowdoin College is my first choice. I'm visiting it in October. They have a really strong field hockey team and have won their conference three years in a row. Hopefully I'll be able to make it.

S: Any ideas of what you'll study when you get there?

C: I'm going to major in liberal arts and go into law or something political.

S: What event are you most looking forward to during your senior year?

C: I guess graduation, but it'll be bittersweet because it'll be fun to leave high school, but sad at the same time to leave everyone and go into the real world.

S: What's on your playlist right now?

C: I listen to everything and anything. I listen to a lot of country because of my boyfriend, but I like any music.

S: What was the last good movie you saw?

C: "Hairspray." It was so good and I really recommend it.

S: What interests do you have other than field hockey?

C: My only interests, really, are sports. I play them all year

so it kind of takes up my life. I
