AVOICE FOR SUMMER RESIDENTS

To the editor:

Summer residents have a voice - though not a vote - in the many issues confronting Nantucket. That voice is an official Town Committee, ACNVT.

The Advisory Committee of Nonvoting Taxpayers was established at the Annual Town Meeting in 1991.

ACNVT is empowered to advise the Board of Selectmen and other town officials of the interests and concerns of those of us who are Nantucket taxpayers but who vote in other places and cannot vote here. Its 15 members are appointed by the Town Manager to represent summer residents, with a few spots currently open for new appointments.

This committee is a vehicle to help the summer resident - the non-voting taxpayer - make his or her voice heard. Besides making recommendations to the Board of Selectmen, the ACNVT can designate a representative to speak at the Annual and Special Town Meetings.

Summer residents are encouraged to contact the ACNVT by email at hnblitman@ worldnet.att.net or by postal mail sent to the Town & County Building, 16 Broad Street, Nantucket 02554.

I encourage you to make your voices heard by contacting us. Let us know what issues are on your mind and what your views are. The more fully our committee is informed about summer resident viewpoints, the more faithfully we can serve as your representatives. And, hopefully, we may be able to help find steps that will address your concerns.

- Howard Blitman

Chairman,

ACNVT
