AIRPORT RESPONDS

To the editor:

The Airport Commission stands by its representation at Town Meeting to keep Mr. Shaw in his house and to achieve a settlement of the lawsuit. There has been no stonewalling on the part of the Airport Commission despite the aggravated assault on its integrity that Mr. Shaw has seen fit to put in our local papers. We have tried to reach a negotiated settlement with the Shaw's insurance company with, as yet, no agreement, but it has not been for lack of trying. It would be nice if speed was an inherent characteristic of the litigation process but, sadly, it is not.

We will continue to do our best to arrive at a fair solution to this problem and we hope that a more reasoned understanding by Mr. Shaw will govern his future communications.

Respectfully submitted,

- Edward Foley Vaughan

Chairman Nantucket Airport Commission
