A PUBLIC APPEAL To the editor: We find it appalling that the Nantucket Planning Board - a town entity that is supposed to base their judgments on the best interests of the community and its residents - would even consider deciding, without concessions or compromises, in favor of the Pippin Way development - a decision that would endanger the unique way a neighboring major working island farm, Moors End Farm, is operated. This is a family-run business, of three generations ownership, whose serious concerns are being ignored, to allow another of our endless list of developments. In this case, it is particularly onerous, since the Slosek family cared enough about Nantucket themselves to place their own property in a Preservation Restriction to protect it from just such exploitation. The board seems to be saying to them, 'We don't care how this affects your farm now or into the future; we think the money-making interests of the developer count for more,' and that is disgraceful. We appeal to the public to convey their feelings on this issue, directly to the Planning Board. Sincerely, - Reva & Mort Schlesinger |
